The Birth Journal

This Week’s Prompt is…

A Letter to My Birthing Self

Journaling is a wonderful way to process, record and move through life's greatest transitions and emotional experiences. It can be helpful when you feel stuck, are looking to express something but aren't sure how or to who, and when you want to keep track of how you are feeling.

Our journal download is an intentional gathering of prompts, lists, ideas and questions to take you from pregnancy through postpartum. Whether you are keeping track of first kicks or manifesting the newborn experience with your partner, we believe that recording your experience is an important piece of the puzzle. This prompt is all about your birth vision and the power of visualization. Read on for directions. All you need is a piece of paper, a pend and a quiet spot.

*Save this post! Come back to it when you’re ready to try. First, find a quiet spot, light a candle or take a few slow breaths. When you are ready, start writing without editing or critiquing yourself.

A letter to your birthing self is an exercise in visualizing the birth experience to want to have and feel. Try writing it in present tense, as you observing yourself in your birth experience. For example - “You are strong and graceful and moving through childbirth with ease." "You are making thoughtful decisions that are best for you and your baby" "You are surrounded by love and warmth" "You are at home, the lights are low and there is lavender in the air."

The power of visualization is real and this is an amazing way to give voice to your hopes or fears and to help you move one step closer to your birth vision.

Let us know how it goes and tag us #doulaworksjournal to inspire one another in the journey.
